CGI

Common Gateway Interface (CGI), a standard way for web servers to interface with executable programs that dynamically generate web pages.

• these programs installed on the server are known as CGI scripts, written in some scripting language
• CGI extends the basic use of HTTP to generating user specific content
• CGI system allows the web browser ot send information to the script via the URL query string or POST requests
